Martin Becker recently joined the Ovida team as General Manager of Business Energy Solutions. Here he shares more about his role and vision.
What is your role at Ovida?
I am the General Manager of Business Energy Solutions, leading a team of energy experts that strive to make energy easy for customers. We provide Build Own Operate solutions for assets that address our customer’s energy challenges, ensuring they are reliable, affordable and sustainable. This may be in the form of commercial grade solar and storage solutions, Microgrid systems for multi-tenanted or multi-metered facilities, stand-alone power systems for customers seeking a more renewable and reliable alternative to grid electricity whilst being cost-competitive, or Private Energy Infrastructure for grid connection or energy distribution. We are committed to ensuring our solutions are tailored to meet the specific needs of our customers, and that allow our customers to focus on their core business activities.
Can you share your background and career highlights?
I have spent the best part of 30 years in the energy industry, working initially in energy distribution, then energy retailing, as well as working as a consultant for some of the largest energy consumers in the country on strategy, planning, procurement, asset optimisation and energy efficiency. Most recently l have been involved in assisting energy users to drive the delivered cost of energy down through the implementation of energy efficiency measures such as lighting, solar/storage, power factor correction, and operational excellence programs designed to minimise consumption and emissions.
What is your vision for Ovida over the next 12 months?
We are committed to becoming a trusted energy partner, and developing strong relationships with our customers that deliver real value and quality outcomes. With new technologies constantly being developed, l see Ovida as the catalyst for connecting customers to the right technology and solution tailored to their needs. The model that underpins our go to market strategy is for Ovida to Build, Own, Operate and Maintain assets for our customers. We aspire to provide our customers with access to funding that enables them to deploy valuable capital in other areas to stimulate business growth. This approach “de-risks” projects for customers, by allowing our teams of experts to efficiently and effectively drive performance of the assets. Our focus is also on improving the reliability and security of supply to customers through the implementation of solutions.
What excites you about the renewable energy industry?
The Australian Renewable Energy Market is undergoing a rapid transition phase, becoming a significant generator to the nation’s energy mix. I see Ovida playing a role in accelerating the adoption of renewable energy and providing our customers with a simple and cost-effective pathway to lowering their emissions and associated energy costs. De-carbonisation is at the forefront of most discussions and Ovida aspires to be a leader in this space.
